TIAC Breakfast Event Great Success
Date Published: 27/06/2013

On 25 June 2013 TIAC held a breakfast event on to further support their current research project Optimisation of STEM education support in Western Australian Schools. The research project is overseen by the TIAC Science Education Committee and is being undertaken by Professor Mark Hackling and his team at Edith Cowan University. More information about the project can be found here.

The breakfast was hosted by Professor Lyn Beazley AO, Chief Scientist of Western Australia and launched by the Hon. Peter Collier, Minister for Education.  Approximately 90 representatives across industry, academia, education and government attended the event.

Dr Jim Ross, Chair of the Science Education Committee, provided an overview of the project and set the context for the research in terms of the declining participation of Western Australian students in science and mathematics. Prof Mark Hackling provided an update on the project progress, including the results of recent literature review and a number of consultations with the formal education sector.

The breakfast presentation slides can be downloaded in pdf format here.

An interactive session using Keepad technologies enabled direct input from the breakfast participants and this was followed by a lively question and answer session with Dr Ross and Prof Hackling.

We strongly encourage you to complete our online survey, through which you can indicate your willingness to take part in a one-to-one survey with Prof Hackling or a member of his team.
