Science and Innovation Minister John Day today welcomed Alan Bansemer as the new chair of the Technology and Industry Advisory Council (TIAC) which was approved by State Cabinet this week.

Mr Day said Mr Bansemer’s vast experience in health and providing strategic advice to government would add value to the wealth of expertise already on the council.

“TIAC plays a key advisory role in determining the strategic direction for industry, science and innovation in the State and Alan’s input will be invaluable to this process,” he said.

“Alan has more than 35 years experience in the health sector. He has been the Western Australian Health Commissioner, and the deputy secretary to the Federal Department of Human Services and Health.

“An influential figure in this important area, Alan now provides strategic advice to health departments throughout Australia through his own private consultancy.

“With Alan’s areas of expertise and his wide-ranging networks, I am certain he will make a positive contribution to the council and I welcome Alan and look forward to working with him to progress industry, science and innovation within the State.”

The Minister said the council provided expert advice and access to networks through members’ links to industry and research communities to assist the State Government in making informed policy decisions and effective policy implementation.

“The council has only recently been re-formed and has already made significant progress,” Mr Day said.
